Employees Performance during Ramadan

Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, 11 August 2010 - Employees’ performance in almost all businesses in Saudi

Arabia drops during the month of Ramadan. On the other hand, consumption increases significantly in

the Food Sector. The decrease in performance can be due to a sudden change of the body clock and

daily habits. Nonetheless, low performance and constant reporting in sick are common features during

the month of Ramadan. This should not justify being lazy and less productive, Ramadan is the month of

worship and hard work.

The reduced number of working hours in the private sector may have economic implications against

the non-oil private sector GDP. According to the Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency, 2008 non-oil private

sector GDP was 440.4 billion riyals (117.4 billion US dollars), which may translate to a loss of 2.4

billion riyals (643.5 million US dollars) in productivity during the month of Ramadan.

What can organizations do to ensure business performance is not affected during Ramadan?

> Ensure you have a clear Ramadan policy in place

> Introduce a morning & evening shift work schedule

> Introduce a Ramadan monthly bonus incentive scheme linked to targets

> Encourage your employees to work overtime

Is Employee On-Boarding a Good Idea?

Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, 19 July 2010 - Employee on-boarding is not just a good idea; it is an important

and strategic step in developing commitment, cooperation, driving results and setting the path for a

positive and lasting employment relationship.

A new employee’s first interactions with his/her line manager should create a positive impression of

overall company services. The time spend planning for the new employee’s first days and weeks on

the job will greatly increase the chances for a successful start.

Proven benefits of an effective employee on-boarding program will improve employee retention rates,

reduced mistakes, positive attitudes, and better communication.

Rotana HR Enhancement Project

Will Saudi Arabia pay increases be back in 2010?

Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, 13 May 2010 - Employees can finally look forward to pay increases this year as

salary growth is yet to return to the rate seen prior to the global financial crisis.

People Excellence, Compensation & Benefits, pointed out that while the Saudi economic conditions

are improving in 2010 with a GDP forecast of 4% and major infrastructure projects, employees

should not expect organizations to play ‘catch-up’ with salary increments. However, the Saudi job

market means business and employers need to sustain and further develop their staff.

It’s not all about pay

Many Saudi employers place great emphasis on guarantee cash allowance in the way they structure

their reward offer but more emphasis should be placed to have a well balance combination of total

rewards to improve their conditions. A well balanced remuneration mix aligned to promote

the need of the employees and the employers will be the driver in the next coming-up years.

Organizations need to allocate their remuneration in the areas of guaranteed cash allowances, short

term incentive plans (STIP), and long term incentive plans (LTIP) effectively to achieve business

goals and retain their people.

A Young Population Puts Pressure on HR

Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, 21 December 2009 - The young population is one of the most powerful forces

now affecting employers in Saudi Arabia & the GCC States. The number of employees entering in the

private & public sectors is rising each year with fewer retirements.

Saudi Arabia as of 2002 had a population of 24 million people, 43% are under the age of 15 & only

3% are over the age of 65. With a population projected to reach 41 million people in 2025, this rapid

growth has business implications of this demographic shift and will be a priority in many companies

and the Saudi Government.

Preserving the knowledge and experience of the mid level and senior workforce while creating and

implementing talent management programs for the next generation of workers will become the focus

of many HR executives. As a result, adapting talent management programs to this challenging reality is

becoming an integral part of People Excellence commitment to help companies in the region to cope

with dramatic changes in HR policies.

To help manage the impact of our clients’, People Excellence will implement HR programs to find top

talent, through competency frameworks and talent assessments, and avoid costly mistakes. By

analyzing compensation and benefits schemes, People Excellence can determine the most cost effective

way to recruit the right talent in a competitive sector. For more information, please contact us.
